The Greater Victoria Harbour Authority (GVHA) oversees a complex and unique portfolio of properties – public and private spaces, marine assets, upland areas and tourist destinations. Through our Accessible Canada Act (ACA) Plan, we intend to continue the work necessary to make our facilities accessible to all.
The Act
As a federally regulated organization operating within the Transportation sector, GHVA has the opportunity to respond to the requirements of the Accessible Canada Act (ACA). The ACA is a federal law enacted in 2019 to advance accessibility and create barrier-free communities, workplaces and services for all Canadians.
GVHA works with Western Stevedoring to operate the Deepwater Terminal (the “Terminal”) at Ogden Point in Victoria, BC. Western Stevedoring and GVHA operate the Terminal under the jurisdiction of Transport Canada and are subject to the accessibility requirements outlined in the Canada Transportation Act. Our Terminal operations, in partnership with Western Stevedoring, facilitate the transportation of members of the public arriving on cruise ships and other vessels.
