The Greater Victoria Harbour Authority is respectfully acknowledges that we live, work, and play on the Traditional, ancestral, and unceded Territory of the lək̓ʷəŋən People, known today as the xʷsepsəm Nation and Songhees Nation. These properties include the Breakwater at Ogden Point, Fisherman’s Wharf, the Inner Harbour, and Wharf Street Marina and receive millions of visitors every year.
Every day, each property experiences a diverse variety of daily traffic; from cruise ships, sailboats, fishing charters, kayaks, and floatplanes; to float homes, events and festivals, restaurants, and local shops and businesses. Each is an important part of the economic well being of Victoria and all impact life on and under the water, the waterfront, and the broader community we neighbour.
In 2025, GVHA will continue to work together with partners and the community on a sustainability strategy for the port and marinas. In line with GVHA’s strategic objectives, our goal is to determine the focus areas of most importance for the next years, creating sustainable and achievable goals.
As stewards of the harbour, we are responsible for maintaining this thriving ecosystem. We do this by reducing the impact of our activities and working together with our partners.

All properties of GVHA are part of the Victoria Harbour Migratory Bird Sanctuary. This 30 km stretch along the coastline is home to approximately 270 bird species including seabirds, waterbirds, and shorebirds, notably in winter. Some of these birds include the Harlequin Duck, Red-Necked Grebe, Western Purple Martin, and Marbled Murrelets.
