GVHA is hosting its third annual Lək̓ʷəŋən Seasonal Opportunities Program. This program is held in the spring of each year in advance of GVHA’s seasonal recruitment to support Lək̓ʷəŋən employment opportunities. It is a targeted program developed with Songhees Nation and Xwsepsum Nation to identify specific members that are interested in working with GVHA.

This year, GVHA has four different opportunities available:

1. Maintenance Crew

Overview:

  • Details: Join the seasonal maintenance crew and learn about foreshore clean-up and waste management, while performing some light construction duties. Other  opportunities may include pump-out boat operating, harbour clearing with work boat and forklift training.
  • Timing: Two weeks in April 2024
  • Open positions: Two (2)
  • Compensation: $125/day for two-week program
  • Application deadline: March 15, 2024
2. Dock Crew

Overview:

  • Details: Join GVHA’s Marina Operations
    Coordinator for dock crew training. Training will be on-site, job shadowing in the Inner Harbour with licensing opportunities, including Pleasure Craft Operators Certificate, Radio Operators Course and First Aid.
  • Timing: May 2024
  • Open positions: One (1)
  • Compensation: $19.65/hour for duration of training
  • Application deadline: March 15, 2024
3. Security

Overview:

  • Details: Receive a Basic Security Training License in a one-week, 40-hour program. After the training, participate in a week (1) long job shadow with GVHA at the Inner Harbour and Fisherman’s Wharf.
  • Timing: Two weeks in April 2024
  • Open positions: Four (4)
  • Compensation: $125/day for job shadowing week
  • Application deadline: March 15, 2024
4. Fuel Dock Training

Overview:

  • Details: Learn about the fuel dock operations from current GVHA staff members.
  • Timing: June 2024
  • Open positions: Four (4)
  • Compensation: $65/half-day
  • Application deadline: May 31, 2024
