Fisherman’s Wharf

Fisherman’s Wharf is a unique marine destination. Working fishing vessels, pleasure boats with live-aboard residents, float homes and commercial businesses are all moored at the docks. The wharf is a destination for those seeking a beautiful harbour view, fresh fish or seafood and water activities with friends and family.

Fisherman’s Wharf is privately owned by the Greater Victoria Harbour Authority, a registered not-for-profit organization.

Operational information

Tour groups are welcomed and permitted to visit from 10 am to 8 pm, seven days a week.

Amenities

  • Public washrooms are on the main dock, west of the Fish Store.
  • Child-size life jackets are free to use and are located in front of the Fish Store. Please ensure these are returned after use.

Tour operator polices and Fisherman’s Wharf etiquette

  • Group tour presentations are not permitted on the docks due to space restrictions. Two areas best suited for tour presentations include Huron Point overlooking A-dock and Fisherman’s Wharf Park. Please see the photo below.
  • To allow all visitors an enjoyable experience, the following activities are prohibited at Fisherman’s Wharf: smoking, vaping, running, and all modes of recreational wheel transportation (i.e., rollerblading, scooters, bicycling, etc.).
  • Dogs are welcome and must be on a leash and supervised at all times.
  • Seating areas at Fisherman’s Wharf are for everyone and are not food vendor specific. Alcoholic beverages must be consumed inside one of the designated licensed seating areas.
  • Float homes are private residences and are owner-occupied year-round. Please ask guests to refrain from stepping onto float homes or their attached properties (rowboats, bicycles, etc.), including the front steps.

Points of interest

  • The average tide variance is approximately 2 metres.
  • Commercial fish operators and liveaboards are located at the west end of Fisherman’s Wharf.
  • Environmental initiatives include an underwater seabed net to help restore degraded Pacific herring spawning habitat, a SEABIN to collect ocean debris (spearheaded by Eagle Wing Tours and partially funded by commercial operators at Fisherman’s Wharf) and waste pumps connecting float homes to the City of Victoria’s sewage systems.
