Greater Victoria Harbour Authority announces board members for 2023-24

January 5, 2023, VICTORIA, BC — The Greater Victoria Harbour Authority has appointed three new members to its Board of Directors for the 2023-2024 term.

Joining the Board for their first term are Mark Collins and Don Krusel (Independent Directors) and Councillor Susan Kim (City of Victoria). Board members who have concluded their terms include Gordon Safarik and Starr McMichael (Independent Directors) and Marianne Alto (City of Victoria). Serving consecutive terms are Township of Esquimalt Mayor Barb Desjardins, Mark Mawhinney (Victoria Esquimalt Harbour Society) and Susan Brice (Capital Regional District). Board members serve four-year terms.

“I am pleased to welcome back Barb, Mark and Susan. A special thank you to our outgoing board members for their time, commitment and dedicated service to GVHA,” said Christine Willow, Chair of the Board of Directors. “This is an important time for GVHA as we prepare to welcome a new CEO in the coming months. During this time, the Board of Directors will provide continuity to GVHA operations as we transition our leadership and remain focused on sustainable growth that benefits the Region.”

Christine Willow was re-elected as Board Chair and Mark Mawhinney as Vice Chair. Committee Chairs will be decided later this month.

The Board of Directors represent eight member agencies: Esquimalt Nation, Songhees Nation, Capital Regional District, City of Victoria, Township of Esquimalt, Destination Greater Victoria, The Chamber and the Victoria Esquimalt Harbour Society. The Board also includes four Independent Directors appointed from the community.
